Friends of NRA plans to hold an NRA Friends & Family Community Event on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The event will be held at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show Event Center, 1000 N Texas Ave, Mercedes, Texs. This is a free event and open to non-NRA members.

This inaugural community event is open to the public and will focus on safe firearm ownership and introductions to NRA programs such as Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program, Refuse to Be a Victim, Hunter Education, and more. There is something for everyone, with the opportunity to gain experience and learn about the shooting sports, where to shoot, and safe firearm handling.

The event will provide the opportunity to meet local instructors, NRA leadership and staff, ask questions, participate in activities, attend classes, and enjoy a fun-filled family day with Friends. This NRA Friends & Family Community Day includes free parking, free lunch, and giveaways.

In addition to free activities and classes, attendees will have the opportunity to experience Friends of NRA and if they choose, participate in our famous bucket games and the Wall of Guns. Every eligible attendee will receive one entry into a drawing for a Henry Lever Action .22; youth attendees will be entered into a youth drawing.

The National Rifle Association, Friends of NRA, our volunteers, and community partners are excited to bring this event to the Rio Grande Valley. It is an opportunity to engage and give back to the community now and in the future. As part of Community Day, we will be granting the City of Mercedes Police Department an Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program Mascot Costume to be used to continue the promotion of safety, training, and education for youth in the Rio Grande Valley; along with the many other amazing programs offered by the NRA.

Sponsor opportunities are available and donations welcome. Sponsors and donors will receive event recognition and applicable tax deductions.
