undefinedThis past weekend, I visited Buchanan County, Va., to see the new elk herd. Leon Boyd, a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation volunteer who has spearheaded the reintroduction, connected me with another local volunteer, James Coleman, to take me up to the viewing area. The elk are currently roaming free around what is partially private property, and partially coal company land. The population has quickly risen to over 100 elk, and as they continue to thrive it is estimated a limited-tag hunt should open around 2018. You can expect a full report and photo gallery in the near future.

Tomorrow morning I leave for Missouri, where my good friend Barbara Baird of Women's Outdoor News will host me for a week. I'll be visiting the WOLF School that works in correlation with Bass Pro Shops, along with the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum and the Archery Hall of Fame & Museum.
