Umarex's newest air-powered device, the AirJavelin, is the next evolution in arrow-based hunting and target shooting—and at the 2020 SHOT Show Industry Day At The Range, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on one. The idea behind this air-powered archery tool may not be exactly new, but it’s definitely a new direction. What do I mean by that? Umarex’s Director of Marketing, Justin Biddle, provided some context:

“Umarex Airguns is venturing into the world of arrows flinging devices, but they're not using strings or limbs to launch them. They are of course using air. You may have already seen the Umarex AirSaber, a rifle that uses high-pressure air to launch an arrow at its intended target with energy that meets and even exceeds a majority of crossbows. That's not what this is about, though. Umarex has announced a second arrow shooting gun, the AirJavelin. The AirJavelin is different. It's smaller and lighter, as are the arrows it shoots...but what makes this gun much different than the AirSaber (released earlier this month), is that the AirJavelin runs on CO2! You know, those disposable, or recyclable, 88-gram CO2 cartridges, or even 12-gram cartridges with our adapter. And that's the beauty. You don't have to have a high-pressure air compressor or struggle through the rigors of using a high-pressure hand pump. Just screw in the tank and you're ready to punch targets or put small- to mid-size game on the table. It is capable of sending a wild pig to its knees so having rabbit for a meal is certainly no issue for it either.”

After a quick briefing, I was able to easily pick up the AirJavelin and place arrows on our 15-yard raccoon Target and (even a few on the elusive jackalope at 20). Overall minimal drop was observed between the two distances and shots.

Although sad to leave it, I realized that at just $169.99, I could easily dry my tears by buying my own. For more information visit UmarexUSA.com
