Springfield Prodigy Compact Lede

Springfield Armory's latest offering in the 1911 sphere continues a welcome 2025 trend: double-stack capacity! The 1911 DS Prodigy Compact takes the time-tested 1911 platform and pushes it to the next level. Created for concealed carry, the Prodigy Compact is available in both 3.5” and 4.25” barrel lengths. Whichever you choose, you'll be carrying 15 rounds of 9mm.

Despite the gun's flush-fitting, double-stack magazine, both new pistols are slim enough for a comfortable grip while still packing in 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition. With an eye on CCW, Springfield worked to keep the Prodigy Compacts as light as possible: 3.5” model weighs 25.5 oz. unloaded, while the 4.25” clocks in at 29 oz. This "diet" was achieved by using polymer grip modules that are mounted to a billet-machined 7075-T6 aluminum frame. The pistols’ slides are composed from forged carbon steel, while the match-grade bull barrels are crafted from forged stainless steel.

Both Prodigy Compacts boast recontoured hammers and beavertail grip safeties designed to reduce bulk while retaining full functionality. (There's also an ambidextrous manual safety.) For corrosion resistance, the pistols feature a black Cerakote finish on their metal parts that complements the black polymer grip module. The barrels feature a black DLC finish.

Another concealed-carry-specific feature is the pistols' sighting system. Right out of the box, the Prodigy Compact is fitted with a tritium front sight post for visibility in low-light conditions mated to a serrated black U-notch rear sight unit. Of course, the pistols are compatible with reflex sighting systems, employing AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS.

About those AOS plates! Machined from billet steel, each is designed specifically to deliver proper optic height for intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition with an integral rear sight. The Prodigy ships with a HEX Dragonfly-compatible plate, as well as a standard cover plate. (Additional optic-specific plates are available for sale at the online Springfield Armory Store.

With an MSRP of $1,549 for either variant, which comes complete with two magazines, the 1911 DS Prodigy Compacts combine the most beloved characteristics of the 1911 with modern capacity for unrivaled EDC-ready performance. Springfield-Armory.com
