When a legendary manufacturer of pinpoint-precise--and very high-end--rifles like Weatherby expands their high-performance line to include aggressively priced models, we sit up and take notice. That's why we're so intrigued by Weatherby's release of three new Mark V Carbonmark rifles featuring advanced materials and engineering technology. This isn't a matter of taking a solid rifle and stripping it to the bare bones in order to reduce its price; these all-new models offer custom features that normally send the price tag much, much higher.

What do we mean by that? The new Weatherby Mark V line of bolt-action rifles includes the Carbonmark, Carbonmark Pro and Carbonmark Elite. Each of the three boasts a sub-MOA guarantee, a new spiral-fluted bolt, a threaded Accubrake ST and Cerakote on all of the metal work. Weatherby's even introduced an all-new trigger that graces the new Carbonmark line--it's called the TriggerTech Mark V trigger, and it's a beauty.

Additionally, each of the new models is available in both left-hand and right-hand versions, so southpaws can expect the same performance and out-of-the-box utility as righties. Current caliber offerings include .257 Wby Mag., .300 Wby Mag., 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5-300 Wby Mag.

“We are incredibly excited to launch these three models of Mark V Carbonmarks in partnership with BSF Barrelsl. New technologies and high performance lift the entire Mark V family. The new carbon fiber stocks of the Pro and Elite offer many shooting options from hunting to bench shooting all while saving weight, ” says Kevin Wilkerson, Weatherby's Director of Marketing.

In addition to the features all of the Mark V Carbonmark rifles share, the new Weatherby Mark V Carbonmark features a BSF Carbon Barrel which is lightweight, accurate and fast-cooling. Using a 416R stainless steel match barrel roll-wrapped with a carbon fiber sleeve loaded under tension to create strength and reduce overall weight. 95 percent of the carbon fiber does not touch the barrel. This allows air to "foil" around the steel and rapidly cool the barrel, adding rigidity and reducing overall weight. This creates an incredibly strong barrel that dissipates heat very well and provides consistent accuracy with high shot counts.

The base Carbonmark has a hand-laid fiberglass black stock with gray and tan sponge accents, and an FDE receiver/brake/trigger guard with a graphite black spiral fluted bolt and safety lever. It weighs 7 pounds in the standard action and 8 pounds in the magnum action, and the MSRP is $2,499.

The Carbonmark Pro features a charcoal carbon fiber stock, tungsten on receiver/brake/trigger guard and graphite black bolt and safety. It weighs in at 6.7 pounds in standard action, and 7.5 pounds in magnum; the MSRP is $2,999.

The Carbonmark Elite features an adjustable comb carbon fiber stock with brown sponge pattern and Coyote Tan Elite on receiver/brake/trigger guard, with a graphite black spiral bolt and safety lever. The weight is 7.2 pounds standard and 8.4 in magnum; MSRP is $3,299.
