Smith & Wesson is on a roll this July! Just a few short days after announcing its new 22X handgun, the storied gun manufacturer released its all-new M&P Shield X series semi-auto handgun. Created for concealed carry (CCW), this sub-compact platform is the next generation of the popular Shield series. The Shield X is a 9mm with capacities of 13+1 and 15+1 for standard models, and 10+1 for a compliant variant.
The Shield X isn't just designed for easy concealability; it's also shootable. If offers an improved ergonomic frame design, including a lengthened grip, undercut trigger guard, and extended beaver tail that provides a better fit and feel no matter your hand size.
S&W has also added upgrades like an aggressive front and rear serration coverage, which allows for easier manipulation. The stainless-steel barrel is 3.6", topped with an Ameriglo Trooper LumiGreen front night sight. The rear sight is a blacked-out serrated u-notch. An integrated front rail and squared-off trigger guard lets shooters add light and laser accessories.
What about optics? Well, the slide features an RMSc/K optics-ready footprint so you can mount a red-dot, should you choose. What's great about using an optic on the Shield X is that Smith & Wesson’s ClearSight Cut is designed to divert gasses away from the red dot glass, preserving an unobstructed view.
“When designing the Shield X, a key focus was enhancing ergonomics to deliver a superior fit and feel across all hand sizes. Drawing inspiration from the Bodyguard 2.0, we introduced several refinements to the frame including undercutting the trigger guard, adding a slight beaver tail, and slimming specific areas at the back of the frame. These changes allow the shooter’s hand to sit higher on the frame, improving control and comfort without compromising concealability. Combined with added features like a rail, extended barrel, aggressive serrations, and upgraded sights, the Shield X is the ideal everyday carry 9mm,” said Grant Dubuc, Director of Product Innovation.
