The 2020 SHOT Show seems to be shaping up as the Year of the Pistol-Mounted Optic as more shooters are learning how pistol-mounted optics can help our accuracy...and more manufacturers are getting on board. Last year, Stoeger made a huge splash with its STR-9 striker-fired pistol; this year, the company is beefing up its line with their new Optics-Ready model. This semi-automatic handgun, Stoeger's first, follows the company tradition of quality firearms at wallet-friendly prices with a base model for just $389 MSRP (meaning it's likely to be much less at dealers). Your average gun owner would be forgiven for fretting about how much extra an optics-ready model would cost them...and the answer is $10. Yes, that's right: This means that, at just $399 MSRP, the STR-9 Optics Ready is sufficiently reasonable that you'll have plenty of cash to go towards that optic.

Not familiar with the STR-9? As consumers are already learning, it's an extremely shootable gun that cycles cleanly and reliably--and serves just as well inside your waistband for concealed carry as it does for home defense and target shooting. It boasts a corrosion-resistant black nitride finish for everyday carry and durability. It comes with three available interchangeable backstrap grips for a custom fit, so shooters of all hand sizes can shoot it comfortably, and sports a 4.17-inch barrel. With an overall length of 7.44 inches and weighing 1.5 pounds, the STR-9 isn't the smallest of the carry guns on the market, but it's definitely still concealable. That tiny bit of extra weight and that tiny bit of additional sight radius afforded by the longer barrel means that this 9mm self-defense firearm is easy and comfortable to shoot, even for neophytes.

Rugged and reliable, the STR-9's has aggressive front and back slide serrations that provide a firm grasp with or without gloves. A smooth-pulling, crisp trigger houses an internal safety for extra security.

The STR-9 Optics Ready features four interchangeable plates for attaching some of the most popular aftermarket red-dot sights to the top of the slide. These sights provide fast and accurate target acquisition in a wide range of lighting conditions and also allow shooters to focus on the target instead of their iron sights. The STR-9 Optics Ready comes with three interchangeable backstraps, three magazines, fiber-optic front iron sight, loader and four optic-mounting plates.
