For this week's #Throwback Thursday, we're traveling back in time to October 2007, when the then-13-year-old Matthew Allred swept the Alabama Sports Festival. Matthew, if you're reading, we'd love to hear how you're doing now!

Matthew Allred, a 13-year-old shooter from Magic City Gun Club in Pinson, Alabama, and a member of Jefferson County’s 4-H shooting team, competed in four events during the Alabama Sports Festival weekend, winning a total of four gold medals and two silver medals. Matthew was awarded gold medals in Smallbore Silhouette Rifle, International Standing Air Rifle, Air Rifle 3-Position individual and Smallbore 3-Position team. He was awarded silver medals in individual Smallbore 3-Position competition and team Air Rifle 3-Position competition.

The Alabama Sports Festival, an annual event that features a wide variety of sporting events from baseball to bowling and tennis to shooting sports, recently took place in Birmingham, Ala. The festival hosted shooting events that spread among Magic City Gun Club in Pelham for the smallbore events and the Trussville Fire Department air rifle range for the Air Rifle events. Pistol and shotgun events were also held at other ranges. Competitors from all over Alabama came to take part in the shooting events and were broken down into appropriate age brackets. Shooters were allowed to participate as individuals or as team members.
