When we say the Springfield Armory Echelon pistol is "built different," we mean it really is a departure from Springfield's XD series. At the heart of the advanced Echelon lies the all-new patent-pending Central Operating Group. It's an entirely self-contained and serialized stainless steel chassis within an unserialized polymer frame.
This gives the shooter a system that can easily be moved between available grip modules in seconds. The pistol comes standard with the medium grip module and three interchangeable backstraps, while small and large grips can be purchased separately. In addition, all controls of the pistol are fully ambidextrous.
Further adding to the Echelon’s adaptability is its truly innovative Variable Interface System, which employs patent-pending self-locking pins to ensure you maintain consistent and reliable point of aim/point of impact with a mounted optic.
"The Echelon doesn't feature a grip safety, it has a blade-style trigger safety, and, of course, there are internal safeties as well, but that's one way in which the Echelon is all new," said American Rifleman Editor in Chief Brian Sheetz.
In addition, the pins can be positioned to fit the footprints of a wide range of popular optics, allowing for an unparalleled direct-mount fit. THat said, the Echelon comes from the factory with your choice of U-Dot tritium/luminescent or traditional three-dot tritium sights. As for size, shooters have a choice of barrel types: a hammer-forged 4.5” barrel, or a 5.28” hammer-forged threaded barrel model. The two included magazines feature a capacity of 17+1 in its flush fit configuration and 20+1 with the extended basepad installed.
