Seventy-five years ago, Hornady Manufacturing founder Joyce Hornady had a vision: “Ten bullets through one hole.” Joyce, known as J.W., had been searching in vain for ammunition that could deliver on the accuracy results his precision rifle promised. From humble beginnings on the plains of Nebraska, J.W.'s vision grew into the ballistics leader that it is today by staying focused on the customers, shooters and hunters who have the same performance expectations that J.W. Hornady did all those years ago.

Hornady Manufacturing has come a long way from its start-up days in a rented garage on Fourth Street in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1949. Today, it stands as the largest independently owned maker of bullets, ammunition, and reloading tools in the world. This remarkable growth is a testament to the many things the company has done right throughout its history, and it suggests that the future holds even more promise.

But there's another aspect of Hornady that would be a real shame to miss, and that's the company's dedication to community and fun. So it's little surprise that Hornady's birthday celebration fell right around the same time as the famed Zombies in the Heartland match. Over 450 zombie hunters descended on Grand Island, Nebraska, May 31-June 2, 2024, to battle the “undead” during the 12th annual Zombies in the Heartland 3-Gun Match hosted by Hornady and the Heartland Public Shooting Park.

Shooters from all over the country armed with handguns, shotguns and rifles tested their talent in 10 zombie-themed stages. Specifically developed reactive zombie targets kept everyone engaged and entertained. Once again, the shuffling undead were defeated by the top shooters in each class.
