Last year, your NRA premiered a new event designed for shooters of all ages and skill levels: The America's Rifle Challenge (NRA-ARC). The Challenge, which is sponsored by Daniel Defense, Condor and Lucid Optics, isn't your ordinary shooting match. It's a recreational training event that's meant to prove to dedicated Second Amendment supporters and newbies alike that the "AR" in "AR-15" stands for "America's Rifle."

The AR-15 is emerging as one of the most popular platforms in the U.S., as they now account for one in four new rifles manufactured in America. This is no accident, given their extensive adapability and potential for customization, as well as the wide variety of uses to which they can be applied. That's why the America's Rifle Challenge is sure to be a hit with AR-15 owners. It's a perfect way to learn more about the firearm's safety and operation, as well as to strut your stuff in friendly competition with people at your skill level.

The NRA-ARC offers three different types of events: training events, basic matches and advanced matches. Each allows participants to experience shooting from multiple defensive firing positions. The basic matches are shot at a slower pace to allow new competitors to get comfortable with their firearms, while the advanced matches are timed, with competitors moving through multiple firing points and reloading against the clock. Participants are encouraged to bring their own firearms and gear to be comfortable and gain safe firearm handling skills with equipment they're familiar using. NRA-ARC isn't just limited to AR-15s either; any semi-automatic detachable magazine-fed rifle can be used.

Because these events are designed for people who may be new to AR-15 ownership, the gear you'll need is minimal. For most events, you'll just need your rifle, two detachable magazines, magazine carrier, sling, eye and ear protection and ammo.
