Watch Leupold's Project Hunt Winner: "Mile-High Muzzleloader"

Armed with a muzzleloader and fueled by 17 years of anticipation, contest winner Ryan seeks his first bull elk in the Rockies.

Since 2021, Leupold has been running a truly unique kind of contest. The famed optics manufacturer calls it "Project Hunt," and what's most interesting about this contest is that the prize is a professionally filmed and edited video of the winner. This year, there are actually two winners; Leupold is releasing them separately across all of the company's social-media channels so each winner gets plenty of time "in the sun." (Or, more precisely, in the hazy light of dawn and dusk, but let's not get hung up on details.)

The first winner is Ryan Haight, whose application earned him the 2023 Project Hunt win. Carrying a muzzleloader and driven by 17 years' anticipation, Ryan chases his first bull elk during the intense Colorado September rut. Alongside his father, brother and best friend Freeman, this NRA Family battles challenging terrain, high altitude and wily bulls.

“For the fourth year running, the Project Hunt submissions we received were fantastic,” said Tim Lesser, Vice President of Product Development & Marketing for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Our team reviewed hundreds of video applications from across the country. What they found were countless great stories–but only a few can be told. We look forward to highlighting our winners in 2025 and, as ever, we continue to be impressed by the incredible stories and relentless drive that our Leupold Core members share with us each year.”
