Springfield Armory recently released an all-new variant of its wildly popular Hellcat series: the .380 ACP Hellcat. Luckily for us, we here at the NRA got our hands on one to test. This defensive dynamo has departed from 9mm chambering to the slightly more controllable .380 ACP. What's the reason? Well, the smaller the firearm, the more difficult some people will find it to contol.
That's because a lot of what you, the shooter, perceive as recoil is normally absorbed by the weight of the firearm. When you have a tiny, lightweight firearm, you'll feel more of the recoil when you shoot and that will mean increased muzzle rise and longer shot-to-shot recovery times. Reducing the chambering just a little bit to .380 seriously mitigates that effect.
It's true that the .380 ACP chambering offers a bit less stopping power than the 9mm. To ensure you have ample defensive firepower, the Hellcat OSP .380 features a class-leading 11+1 flush magazine in its smallest form, and also includes a 13+1 extended magazine for added versatility.
This great video from our friends at American Rifleman walks you through all of the features and function of this new offering from Springfield. For more, visit Springfield-Armory.com.
