The brushytails are back! Last year's annual World Champion Squirrel Cook Off was tree-chicken terrific, and this year's event is shaping up to be the same. Scheduled for Sept. 13 at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center in Springdale, Arkansas, the Cook Off celebrates the culinary legacy of the humble squirrel.
The Cook Off is proudly sponsored by Umarex, and brings together 40 teams competing for the World Champion title. In past years, award-winning chefs from around the nation have plated everything from squirrel tacos, to pho, to chicken-fried squirrel, to chili. Only time will tell what this year's chefs have scurrying around up their sleeves, but you should bring your appetite to the competition ... the 40 Cook Off teams also prepare food for attendees!
If you're feeling extra brave, feel free to enter what Cook-Off organizers have dubbed the "WORLD'S HOTTEST SQUIRREL EATING COMPETITION." If you like your squirrel super-spiced and are feeling brave, you can sign up on the day of the event. "Prepare to ingest the most incendiary squirrel ever cooked (don't worry, we won't say 'we told you so')," say the organizers. The winner will receive prizes and the crowd will be entertained by the spectacle "the squirrel's revenge." This has been a crowd favorite for several years.
“This is one of our favorite events, because airguns and squirrel hunting are a natural fit,” said Scott Faldon, Umarex marketing manager. “We love getting out in the Ozarks chasing squirrels and we really enjoy talking with hundreds of like-minded squirrel hunters each year at this event. Plus, the food is great.” For more information, click here!
