When a company going by Delta McKenzie announced their newest 3D archery target would take the form of a large goblin, the first thing I thought of was a children’s poem that, naturally, gave me nightmares as a child: “Little Orphant Annie” by James Whitcomb Riley. If you’re not familiar with the piece, the refrain is as follows: “An' the Gobble-uns'll git you
             Ef you
                Don't
                   Watch
                      Out!

(And yes, that is the original spelling; the full poem text can be found here if you would like to sample my childhood trauma.)

Perhaps Little Orphant Annie was given a compound bow for her birthday; perhaps the wave of 1980s nostalgia overtaking the country is making us Generation X-ers long for the days of playing D&D; or perhaps Delta McKenzie just thought, “You know what would really make me giggle? Shooting arrows at a ‘realistic’ goblin target.” Whatever the inspiration behind the Goblin 3D target, it’s sure to be a hit—with both field points and broadheads, apparently.

This highly detailed, hand-painted target is crafted out of a high-quality durable target foam that self-heals, so you and your family will have hours of fun making sure that this particular gobble-un won’t git anyone. He’s so realistic-looking that he’ll fit right in with your Halloween porch decorations in a couple of months, but his “decorative” properties are only part of the equation.

Mr. Goblin features a wedge profile, so he’ll stay upright even when he’s feathered with arrows. He’s also rather large, standing 30 inches high by 24 inches wide, so it's easier for folks getting started with archery to experience early success. He’s approved for crossbow use, field points and broadheads, so you can practice with the bow and arrow combination you intend to use to hunt. (That said, you probably shouldn’t rely on a goblin’s vital area as a template for a whitetail’s.)
