Leatherman Tool Group, Inc. has debuted a multi-tool built specifically for youths. Leatherman acknowledged that not all users are ready to wield knives, so the Leap Multi-Tool features the ability to be used without the knife blade. When the user is ready, the 420HC knife blade can be added on. The Leap Multi-Tool will fit comfortably in a child's hand and is safe for them to use, featuring the traditional needle nose and regular pliers, wire cutters, saw, ruler, tweezers, soda bottle opener, optional 420HC knife blade, Phillips, medium and small screwdrivers. For extra safety, Leatherman added a safety lock that makes sure the user's fingers are never in the path of the tools, along with a two-hand opening knife blade for safer deployment and glass-filled nylon handle scales with an ergonomic grip that trains the user to operate the blade in the opposite direction of himself.

"Having kids myself, I've found there isn't a perfect tool for their size and ability that I feel comfortable letting them use," said Product Manager Jason Carpenter. "The Leap is something I'd feel safe using to train and teach them the proper ways to use a tool and blade."

The Leatherman Leap Multi-Tool comes in red, green and blue. MSRP $54.
