Whether you're an avid hunter or just someone whose suburban backyard receives a lot of whitetail attention, if you spend enough time watching whitetail deer, you're going to have some questions. Some of the behaviors they exhibit make perfect sense even if you don't know much about deer. Others, not so much. For example, you'd normally expect an herbivorous prey animal to flee any time it sees something that makes it nervous ... but they don't, always. Sometimes, they just stomp a hoof. Why?

How about during mating season? We know that during this time, called "the rut," that bucks will fight one another. But are they actually trying to kill each other? And what's up with that funny face that buck is making?

The National Deer Association specializes in whitetails ... conservation, research, understanding and hunting. They've put together this amazing video (you should check out their whole channel!) with 19 interesting deer behaviors, and what each one means. It'll boost your chances of seeing deer in the field, as well as understanding what you're seeing and why.
