There have been reports from the field that our system will often disallow the entry of a candidate’s ID number, leaving the Training Counselor at a loss as to why. NRAInstructors.org is a sophisticated website that is designed to make course reporting easier for instructors and training counselors alike. It also includes security features which are designed to prevent the misapplication of credentials to an unauthorized person. The system is equipped with a feature that compares the profile data of the candidate against the membership database when a membership number is entered. If there is any difference between the course profile and the membership profile for the candidate, the system will disallow the entry of that ID number.
Tips for easier reporting on your courses!
1. Before the course and during the registration process, instruct your member candidates to contact NRA Member Services to get an accurate picture of their information saved in the NRA system. That information can then be copied and used in the course registration (must be exact match).
2. If after making this effort, a candidate’s number still won’t be taken, treat the candidate as if he or she has no ID number and enter the candidate’s information, leaving just the ID field blank. Save data accordingly.
3. Inform the candidate of the situation and let him/her know that after the course is completed and the report submitted, the NRA staff will manually reconcile the course record to the ID number if a matching file can be found in the system, or issue a temporary ID number of a match isn’t found.
4. Let the member candidate know that if they receive a temporary, non-member number by mistake they will need to contact the NRA Training Dept. to request a merger before paying the fee.
5. Inform the candidate that this process known as “web student errors” commences on Wednesday and may continue through Friday (depending on volume). The candidate will need to wait accordingly. Candidates should allow a full week before contacting the NRA Training Dept. for any follow-up.
By following these tips, you will be able to streamline the credentialing process for your candidate and prevent confusion. This reduced burden on your candidates will enhance their overall experience, make them happier and more motivated to teach NRA classes, acquire additional certifications, encourage others to join this program as well as the NRA as members, and to contribute more to the mission of excellence in firearm education in and out of the program. Thank you for all that you do!
