YESWhiteHouseThe Youth Education Summit (Y.E.S.) continued its whirlwind adventure in citizenship as the busload of intrepid Summiteers braved the sticky heat of a late-June D.C. afternoon to tour the awe-inspiring monuments of the area.

The first stop wasn't actually a memorial at all, but a house...perhaps the most famous house in America. As the students quickly learned, the White House isn't just the home of the President...it also makes a pretty great backdrop for selfies.

YESLincolnLed by historian David Elliot, a licensed Washington, D.C. guide, the group visited the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the National World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, and last-but definitely not least-the Lincoln Memorial. Thanks to Elliot, the kids not only got to see the monuments, but to hear the inside story of what the monuments mean and their history.

As luck would have it, the skies that had been threatening rain all afternoon waited until after the students had boarded their bus to open up. It's always a good sign for the rest of the trip when the weather cooperates.
