Taurus believes that self-defense should be affordable, and the company's announcement of its new-for-2025 GX2 is the latest example. With an MSRP just a touch over $300, most consumers should be able to find one for less at dealers. The affordable price point isn't the only draw for first-time gun buyers ... not by a long shot. (See what we did there?)

By incorporating features typically found in higher-priced models, it sets a new benchmark for performance and reliability in its category. Whether for everyday carry or home defense, the GX2 offers shooters—whether new to firearms or experienced—an accessible, dependable option without sacrificing durability or ease of use. With modern features and a design built for comfort, the GX2 is a firearm that delivers exceptional value while exceeding expectations.

Part of what makes the GX2 special is how Taurus developed this firearm. It began its life cycle in the same way of all guns--on a drawing board. What's different is that after prototyping and testing, Taurus decided to take an extra step to ensure that this semi-automatic striker-fired handgun is everything new shooters need it to be ... setting gun writers to the task of testing it in person at Gunsite Academy.

You can read about how that all went here, at NRAWomen.com, but the short version is that thousands of trouble-free rounds were fired at the event, demonstrating the pistol's impressive durability and ease of use. "First impressions of the GX2 are its ergonomics," noted reviewer Holly Marcus. "The curve of the backstrap allows for a smaller circumference up high on the frame, which is ideal for a smaller hand. I noticed that I was able to manipulate the magazine release, slide release and safety without shifting my firing grip. The reach to the trigger is also comfortable."

Chambered in 9mm, the Taurus GX2 Compact has a 13-round capacity and comes with two magazines. It features industry-standard steel dovetail sights and a sharpshooter barrel to help new shooters build their skills. A hinged trigger safety and manual safety round out the package. At this time, it's available with a stainless-steel slide or standard black. MSRP $309.99-$324.99, depending upon model chosen; TaurusUSA.com
