Here at NRA Family, we've talked many times about the importance of getting training in the safe operation of your firearm...and we're not going to stop anytime soon. Just buying a gun is simply not enough to ensure your and your family's safety. However, depending on where you live, getting the best training for your dollar may be intimidating or difficult. That's why the NRA created Whittington U, the training division for the NRA's Whittington Center (NRAWC).

The Whittington Center, a 52-square-mile world-class outdoor facility located in northeastern New Mexico's Sangre de Cristo mountains, offers over a dozen different ranges for pistol, rifle and shotgun shooting and is well known as the "crown jewel" of shooting centers in the United States. If you're looking to get expert training while relaxing in one of the most beautiful places in America, set your sights on Whittington U for 2016. The Whittington U offers courses around the real-world use of firearms in everyday life. They use an educational approach and University-style model which blends relevant firearm instruction with NRAWC's unique training facilities.

There's more to the NRAWC than its shooting facilities...it's a great family getaway, too. There are plenty of onsite lodging options ranging from basic to luxurious, including camping and RV facilities. Additionally, the nearby town of Raton, N.M. offers plenty of Southwestern dining options and things to do after the guns have been put away for the day. Or simply relax and enjoy the fresh air and breathtaking views and wildlife on display at the center. (Check out this awesome video of the Center and its activities!)

Training dates are now open for registration! Here's what they have on offer:
