Whether it's a shotgun or a rifle, there are a number of ways to transport your firearm in the field, including cradle carry, elbow carry, shoulder carry, and sling carry. Only the last one is a hands-free technique; it refers to attaching a sling to your long gun and then wearing the firearm over your shoulder. Because sling carry frees up your hands, it's very popular. Done correctly, it's also very safe.

But what about what happens if you need to bend over? Won't the gun's muzzle swing around in unpredictable ways while gravity does its thing? Not if you know how to manage it! In this terrific video from our friends at NRAWomen.com, Brad Gilpin of Blue Force Gear demonstrates how to control the muzzle direction of your long gun in case you need to shift your balance in the woods, fields, or range.
