They called it the "Great War" or, optimistically, the "War to End All Wars," but unfortunately the people alive during the first part of the Twentieth Century didn't have the prognostication abilities it would have required to call it World War I.

Although the historical impact of World War II tends to overshadow the Great War that preceded it, it was very much a watershed event during its time. Although there are more themes of historical note to emerge from that conflict than there are scholars to note them, one way that World War I influenced the course of history was the way that handguns were used during it. In this segment from American Rifleman TV, we examine the significance of handgun use by the soldiers of the era.
