Video Review: Dark Storm Industries' 50-State Legal Typhoon AR-15

Here's some great news for law-abiding citizens who live in states with restrictive gun laws: Dark Storm Industries has recently released their brand-new Typhoon "AR-15," and it's legal in all 50 states. You may have noticed the scare quote in the previous sentence; this is a perfectly normal-looking AR-15, but it doesn't function like any other such modern sporting rifle on the market. As Shooting Illustrated's Ed Friedman demonstrates in this video from the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits exhibit hall floor, this black rifle has what amounts to an internal 10-round magazine that the user loads from the top.

What's of particular interest is that if you live in a restricted state like California, New York or Hawaii (where this version of the gun is legal), but then choose to move to a freer state like Arizona or Texas, you can have the gun changed back into a more traditional AR-15 configuration. This isn't something that the user can do at home, of course; instead, you would need to send the gun back in to Dark Storm to have them mill you a new receiver with a new serial number. However, this service will only cost the user $100...which is a heck of a bargain for just about any kind of gunsmithing work! Check out this video for more information, or visit Dark Storm online. (At the time of this writing, Dark Storm is running a giveaway in which one winner will receive a new Typhoon...check it out here!)
