Video Review: Staccato XL Double-Stack Pistol

This hammer-fired, competition-ready handgun is the epitome of "Go Big Or Go Home."

Years ago, a company that went by STI International introduced competition-ready double-stack handguns that electrified competitive pistol shooters nationwide. These days the company has rebranded to Staccato ... and that just may be the perfect moniker for an outfit that makes a pistol like the Staccato XL. It's an operatic name for an epic gun that offers the magazine capacity and rapid shot-to-shot recovery necessary to make shooting sound properly staccato.

Chambered in 9mm Luger, the gun comes with both a 17- and a 20-round magazine, so there's potential to carry 21 rounds. This full-sized handgun weighs in at a fairly hefty 38 ozs. unloaded, and 21 rounds of lead ammo will increase the load. That weight absorbs recoil and dampens muzzle rise; it's a boon to competitive shooters, but can make concealed carry a bit of a challenge.

In this great video review from our friends at American Rifleman, you'll learn why the Staccato XL earned its title as the NRA Gun of the Week. "On the range, the competition pedigree of the Staccato XL was clear," they report, "as the gun balanced well, shot flat and displayed a remarkable trigger and a fast-cycling operating system that is definitely intended to trim fractions of a second off a top-tier competitor’s stage time."
