SHOT 2020: SCCY's $289 9mm DVG Pistol

SHOT 2020: SCCY's $289 9mm DVG Pistol

Danger doesn’t always present itself immediately after payday. Sometimes the wrong person comes into your life right after you’ve paid your bills and your protection simply cannot be put on layaway.  For that reason, there is a huge demand for affordable defensive pistols that you can stake your life on. SCCY (pronounce it "sky") has been at the forefront of that movement with their 9mm CPX pistols costing as little as $239 MSRP. After firing one for the first time (at a 100-yard silhouette) I was immensely impressed. As I put the gun down I said to COO Beau Hickman, “That’s pretty cool, you guys should make a striker-fired gun.” He simply smiled and didn’t say a word.

Well, it turns out I wasn’t the only person with this request, and at the 2020 SHOT show SCCY released just that. Their new 9mm DVG series of pistols are polymer-framed, just like the CPX line, and still maintain that 10+1 capacity. At only $289 MSRP they maintain that budget-friendly price point as well. For about another hundred bucks there is even an optics-clad version available that comes with a Crimson Trace CTS-1500 already strapped to it.

As I connected with Chris Davis at the SCCY booth I had the opportunity to handle the new pistol. During my chamber check, I noticed the slide serrations and ease of manipulation. I was also allowed to dry-fire the new pistol and observed a trigger pull that was right around 5 pounds. It consisted of two stages with the first stage taking up about 25 percent of the travel before transitioning to a rolling break. My last point of inspection was the magazine system, which consisted of a 10-round double-stack box mag with a traditional button-style release. Depression was relatively smooth, and the mags even dropped free right out of the box.

Putting it back on the shelf I was impressed at how affordable a decent gun can actually be. For more information visit https://www.sccy.com/dvg/.
