Firearm owners know that safety is the first and foremost element of gun ownership, especially when it comes to the presence of children in a gun-owning household. The new IdentiLock biometric trigger lock is designed specifically for this purpose, ensuring that gun owners can keep their firearms secure from unauthorized users while still maintaining readiness during an emergency.
IdentiLock operates through the use of a built-in fingerprint scanner, which automatically pops the lock open once a correct fingerprint ID is presented to the device. The lock engages around the trigger guard of a select firearm model, ensuring that the trigger cannot be disturbed with the lock in place. However, IdentiLock allows for users to rack the slide of their handgun, enabling them to get the gun into action with the trigger secured.
The lock can be coded with up to three separate fingerprints, allowing users to enroll multiple fingers for additional access capability or allowing multiple authorized users within one household to access the locked firearm. The company claims that unlocking the device takes just 300 milliseconds, ensuring that users have access to their defensive firearm when it counts.
IdentiLock comes equipped with a manual key override, which enables access in the case of battery failure and also allows users to enroll their fingerprint into the biometric keypad. To enroll, simply insert the key and turn clockwise, closing the lock around the trigger guard of your firearm. An indicator light turns blue, signaling users to press their finger onto the scanner for a full second. This motion is repeated eight times until the scanner is fully encoded with the user’s print.
The lock is equipped with an internal rechargeable battery and includes a USB charging cable that allows users to easily top off the battery life of their IdentiLock system. The company recommends that users recharge the battery at least once every 3 months or when the indicator lights begin blinking red.
While the product is designed for use in the home, it can also be applied in a number of applications on the go, such as vehicle carry or purse carry for women. The product weighs in at less than 12 ounces, making it easy to incorporate into any purse.
The IdentiLock biometric fingerprint lock is available for 14 different Glock pistol models, including the popular Glock G17 and G19. Locks are also available for 1911s, SIG Sauer P226 and P229s, Smith & Wesson M&P 9mms and the S&W Shield; $239.
