undefinedHere at the NRA we want to make sure everyone has a fun, safe time this holiday season. We have a few handy tips from Refuse To Be A Victim to make sure your home and valuables don't become a target for thieves.

Developed in 1993 in response to nationwide requests for crime prevention seminars, Refuse To Be A Victim teaches methods to avoid dangerous situations and prevent criminal confrontations. For an afternoon of your time, you'll be presented with a variety of common-sense crime prevention and personal-safety strategies and devices that you can integrate into your personal, home, automobile, telephone, technological and travel security.

1.) Don't take short cuts when putting up Christmas lights. Thieves look for extension cords being fed through partially open windows. If you don't have an outdoor electrical outlet, opt for batter- powered lighting, or install some festive lights on the inside of your window frames.

2.) If your tree is placed near a window, keep the curtains closed. Don't taunt a potential thief by showing off all the great things you have and with all the presents lying underneath!

3.) Dispose of gift packaging carefully and break down boxes before throwing them away. Don't make it easy for a thief to see what new goodies are inside your house!
