What Was That?

One time, about two years ago, I saw the strangest thing. My best friend and her uncle decided they would call for coyotes somewhere on the property that we own. They had asked me if I wanted to go along, and I said, "Sure."

We had ventured out to the lake and had seen a huge brush pile. Daniel, my best friend's uncle, climbed inside and Natalie, my friend, and I stayed outside. I looked up at the moon because I saw its bright reflection on the lake. My eyes drifted back to the lake and I saw something very unusual. In the light of the moon, I saw something black swimming across the lake. I could not make out what it was, but it could have been a deer. I'm not sure.

I looked into the brush pile to see if Daniel saw it, but he was busy with something else. I then quickly scanned the lake once more, and it was gone! It was nowhere to be seen on the shore of the lake anywhere either.

I thought at first that maybe it was my eyes playing tricks on me, so I crawled into the brush pile. Natalie came right after me. When she sat right next to me she whispered "Did you see that thing in the lake?" My blood turned cold, and I told her that I had seen it too.

We never saw it again, but we still don't like roaming around the property in the dark.
